Christian Aid Ministries (CAM) was founded in 1981 as a
nonprofit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization. Our primary
purpose is to provide a trustworthy, efficient channel for Amish,
Mennonite, and other conservative Anabaptist groups and individuals to minister to physical and spiritual needs around
the world.
Annually, CAM distributes fifteen to twenty million pounds
of food, clothing, medicines, seeds, Bibles, Favorite Stories from
the Bible, and other Christian literature. Most of the aid goes
to needy children, orphans, and Christian families. The main
purposes of giving material aid are to help and encourage God’s
people and to bring the Gospel to a lost and dying world.
CAM’s international headquarters are in Berlin, Ohio.
CAM has a 55,000 square feet distribution center in Ephrata,
Pennsylvania, where food parcels are packed and other relief
shipments are organized. Next to the distribution center is
our meat canning facility. CAM is also associated with seven
clothing centers—located in Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland,
Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ontario, Canada—where
clothing, footwear, comforters, and fabric are received, sorted,
and prepared for shipment overseas.
CAM has staff, warehouses, and distribution networks in
Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Liberia.
Through our International Crisis program we also help victims
of famine, war, and natural disasters throughout the world. In
the USA, volunteers organized under our Disaster Response
Services program help rebuild in lower income communities devastated by natural disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and
hurricanes. We operate an orphanage and dairy farm in Romania,
medical clinics in Haiti and Nicaragua, and hold Bible-teaching
seminars in Eastern Europe and Nicaragua.
CAM’s ultimate goal is to glorify God and enlarge His
kingdom. “. . . whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”
(1 Corinthians 10:31).
CAM is controlled by a twelve-member board of directors
and operated by a three-member executive committee. The
organizational structure includes an audit review committee,
executive council, ministerial committee, several support
committees, and department managers.
Aside from management personnel and secretarial staff,
volunteers do most of the work at CAM’s warehouses. Each year,
volunteers at our warehouses and on Disaster Response Services
projects donate approximately 100,000 hours.
CAM issues an annual, audited financial statement to its
entire mailing list (statements are also available upon request).
Fund-raising and non-aid administrative expenses are kept as
low as possible. Usually these expenses are about one percent of
income, which includes cash and donated items in kind.
